Michael Vick: A Signpost of Things to Come?
I sincerely thought I was done writing about Michael Vick and his horrific actions towards animals. I had really hoped that I was. It is not that I had found some misguided or unfounded forgiveness, but rather I was put off by the sheer ignorance of people and their ability to overlook what they think they might have known about this so-called man and his sadistic nature. As a result, I quietly set my pen down and began to mourn my fellow Americans as I tried to rationalize the state of affairs in our once great nation. This is situation, the Michael Vick Cancer, has a broader scale to it that I think needs to be addressed.
Yesterday, in celebration I can only assume of his new $100m contract with the Eagles, ESPN’s SportsCenter aired the “Top 10 Vick Moments”. If only I could have gotten my hands on the dumb ass producer who chose to put that together. Why not air “Vick’s 10 Worst Moments”? Spend thirty seconds of your precious TV time showing the victims of this ‘sports star’. This man thinks you are all sheep. He thinks if he continues to excel on the field the public will forget about his violent crimes. In his recent GQ article Vick stated –
“But what have I done to anybody? It was something that happened, and it was people trying to make some money.”
Well, Mike that is certainly one way to rationalize it. But I am thinking your PR team didn’t necessarily approve that little gaffe, did they? But sadly, he is right. Far too many Americans find it convenient to ignore what Michael Vick did simply because he’s magical to watch on the field or because he’s on their fantasy team. I actually had some idiotic woman tell me that two weeks ago. Even ESPN with all of their miles and terabytes of film has already forgotten. Or perhaps they have merely chosen not to remember – just like the woman in the bar. It was as if fantasy football held some sacred value to her.
Michael Vick is a sensational football player, of that there is no doubt. But what else is Michael Vick? I would argue that he is a diseased human, a sadist, a user, and a fraud. And he is symptomatic of what is wrong with America. What has happened to our basic values? Words like “Right and Wrong”, “Hard Work”, and “Integrity” have lost their meaning and have become clichés and punchlines.
How shallow have we become that we can overlook someone deriving sick pleasure from throwing a dog into a pool and then attaching battery cables to its ears as it struggles to climb out simply because that man can run and throw a football? I understand that football is an important part of our culture, I am a huge fan. But neither it, nor one man’s contribution to it are anywhere as important as our character and our ability to discern right action from wrong. It is what separates us – well most of us – from the rest of the animal kingdom.
If your son or daughter had a motocross star or perhaps a pop singer that they idolized and news reports began to surface that that individual had maliciously and savagely tortured, mutilated and killed dogs for nothing more than an adrenalin rush (Michael Vick, although he funded the entirety of BadNewz Kennels, did not accept proceeds from the winnings – not a single dime)- how would you react? Would you overlook these actions and agree with your son or daughter that “yeah, he can handle a bike though” or “yeah, but she sure can sing”? I can only hope that you would be disgusted and discuss their misplaced fan idol, that you would remind them of love and nurturing, you would tell them that an individual cannot be separated from their actions and that we are what we do. Would you remind them of the family pet and help them to understand the violent nature of their idol? I would like to think that you would act like a responsible parent and explain to your child that those actions were wrong and that that person is NO ONE to be looked up to for any reason.
Throughout our history as a nation, we have had others who have been sensational athletes. Men like Jim Thorpe and Jackie Robinson overcame far greater adversity than Michael Vick can ever claim to, and yet their past is not peppered with psychotic violence. Can you imagine the absolute upheaval that would have erupted had either of these two men have engaged in the actions that Michael Vick did? What has changed? We have. Our acceptance of atrocities in lieu of athletic prowess has morphed us into a people who value entertainment more than life. It reminds me of the movie “Running Man” where the world’s most popular game show consisted of human hunts.
Now, I have long tempered my words regarding this situation. I have tried to express myself professionally and without threats, wishes of violence or obscenity laced language even though in my heart that is exactly what I wanted. As a result I have had any number of morons attacking me with racial slurs, racial accusations, and arguments of inner city upbringing, while other mentally challenged people would simply utter “What the f*@k, they’re just dogs” or “you eat meat don’t you” or even the ignorant attempt to parallel what Michael Vick did to hunting. Well, while I don’t hunt, I know people who do and none of those individuals take pleasure in premeditated torture. Michael Vick did and laughed while it happened. He even had special stands built to hang poorly performing dogs. To hang them!?! That wasn’t easy. It wasn’t quick. It was torture, pure and simple.
Nike recently reversed their position regarding Vick and re-signed him to another endorsement deal. In 2007 Nike referred to Michael Vick’s actions as “inhumane, abhorrent and unacceptable.” After this new deal was inked a Nike spokesperson gave the company’s line –
“Michael acknowledges his past mistakes,” Saalfeld said. “We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field.”
Really? Nike is not sponsoring Vick for what he does off the field, but for what he does on the field. I would love to grab Nike CEO, Mark Parker by the back neck and force him to look face to face with the many victims of Vick. I want him to join his “partner” in greed and feel the perverted rush of shoving a dog’s head into a five gallon bucket of water while Vick and Philips hold its legs up, restraining the kicking dog until finally it dies.
Before we continue let’s go back to ESPN for a moment. After the inking of the Nike deal, one of their commentators added that ‘Nike likes edge. Michael Vick because of his past IS edge.” No, whoever the Hell you are, “Edge” is not torturing and mutilating dogs. That is sick, it is sadistic, and it is not to be revered, celebrated nor sponsored. Our media continue to shelter this man and the public from truly understanding what he did. But why?
I for one will never purchase another Nike product (or any from their subsidiaries) until they WILLFULLY terminate their agreement with Vick.
Unequal Technolgoies CEO, Rob Vito said
“Michael is good people. He paid his dues. President Obama reached out to him. He deserves an opportunity. This is what makes America so great. He’s moved forward. He’s a whole other person.”
Mr. Vito you are a pathetic excuse for a man. Did you know the previous monster and are now able to distinguish the two? No? But if the President with his untarnished ethics can “reach out” for him, he must be good. I want your children, Mr. Vito, to watch as their father uses a shovel to beat the family dog to death while Vick stands by and laughs. Mr. Vito, you are joke.
I want NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Eagles Owner Jeffery Lurie to stand in the ring and watch the bait dogs being torn apart, fueling the blood lust of the trained fighters Vick has raised. I want them to see first-hand and I want them to smell the stench of savagery sponsored and perpetrated by their poster boy.
Until these men do these things and see the sickening violence in person and with their own eyes they are nothing more than greed worshipping hypocrites who can easily say “Mike’s paid his debt. He’s changed. He has redeemed himself”. In Vick’s own words his biggest regret isn’t what he did, but rather that his sentence wasn’t shorter. How’s that for owning up to your mistake and being a man. Not in my book, Mike.
To be clear, Michael Vick never served one single day in prison for dog fighting or for animal cruelty. Instead he was allowed to pled out to some weak assed charge of conspiracy – not exactly in line with the brutality he was and is guilty of. Who do we have to blame for this? Virginia Prosecutor Gerald Poindexter is a good place to start. He felt it would be too costly to bring Vick to Virginia from Leavenworth penitentiary to try him. And then of course there are United States Attorneys Chuck Rosenberg and Michael R. Gill who decided to offer the plea agreement in the first place. You men are beacons of law enforcement and criminal justice. You should be proud.
Let’s not forget Virginia Congressman, Jim Moran who this past July stated that in support of House Resolution 2492 Michael Vick provided Congress with “a leader” and that “[t]his is a story of redemption.” Congressman you are a Jackass who represents the Democratic party symbol well. This man is not a leader or a hero to the cause. He is the culprit. I cannot believe the people of Virginia found you a worthy representative. Let’s see if we can’t change that in the upcoming election, huh?
Finally, there is Humane Society of the United States CEO, Wayne Pacelle. Pacelle does understand the nature and the violence that was carried out. He has seen it first hand, and as a result he is the worst corporate offender of them all. He should, more than any, rally for the animals and not for Vick, but for whatever reason he has sold out his cause for a chance to hang with Vick. Enjoy an egg, Pacelle, your words no longer carry weight with those who would have supported you. And, let me add again, great job saying you think “It would be a good thing for Michael Vick’s family to have a pet.” Good for who Wayne? The animal? The Vick children? Or maybe just good for the murderous son of a bitch who is your travel partner for no reason other than public relations. Vick had “pets” before and according to Federal documents he threw two of them into the ring and laughed as they were mauled to death.
If you give money to the Humane Society of the United States with their cat and dog laced commercials, you are a sheep. Less than 5% of every dollar goes to shelters in any form. Where does the bulk go? Congress and advertising. Are you seeing a pattern yet? Give your money directly to a local shelter to insure you see local results.
Right now, our Federal Courts are attempting to retry “FORMER” baseball star Barry Bonds for Obstruction of Justice in the Balco case. Originally he was charged with perjury for lying to Congress. Really? Now that’s joke in itself. Who the Hell are they? They, today, are certainly not the men who founded this great nation. They are not the men who built it. They are a pool of sharks who have nothing but self promotion and greed as their sole credo. Every one of those 585 individuals lies to us every day. And yet they are above the law – The laws that they write, that they customize and that they pass. The fact of the matter is that they are not. They have to answer to me and to us.
Barry Bonds could face up to ten years in Federal Prison for giving a less than clear answer. Michael Vick who was personally responsible for the violent, torturous deaths of nine dogs and the subsequent deaths of five others after being rescued spent a mere 18 of 23 months in prison. Barry, I for one hope you get off scott free. This whole damn process has cost the American people millions. Bond’s first trial cost taxpayers an estimated $6 million and that doesn’t include grand jury and appeals. But Gerald Poindexter can’t afford to transport Vick? BULLSHIT!
Now, I am not some hyper-liberal, actually far from it. I believe in capitalism and I believe in a free market system. But I also believe in right and wrong. I believe in hard work versus idleness and I also believe that an entity’s character is defined not only by the entity itself, whether that is a person or a corporation, but also by those that said entity chooses to associate with – “Guilt by Association” if you will. And this is where the above mentioned corporations and their leaders now find themselves. They have fallen into the abyss of “whatever it takes economics”. And that, my friends, is exactly what is wrong with our country today. Corporations, our elected leaders and unfortunately too many of us no longer cherish values like character, hard work, and merit. We now value “NOW”, “FAST”, “EASY”, “POPULAR”. We live in a fast food, credit ridden, infomercial world that has propelled us to pursue Nickelback’s “Rock Star” life. Leveraged and of hollow character is no way to go through life.
I know that many of you reading this still don’t get it. You still cannot see beyond football and as a result you affirm that the dogs Michael Vick killed are as disposable as he believed them to be. But I am sure most every one of you has also heard the pained whimper of a dog at some point in your life. I would ask you to try to conjure that sound up again, right now. Imagine standing over that cute, innocent, hurt dog with a shovel. You can feel your heart racing. The blood is coursing through your veins spreading the adrenalin like a drug. Can you feel it? That’s it, raise the shovel. Glare at that pathetic creature with your evil eyes. Tighten your grip around the handle. God, you feel so alive right now, don’t you? Your lips turn up into a sinister sneer. No more thought, nothing but the pure intoxicating sensation of power as you bring the head of the shovel down onto the dog’s head. It yelps loudly, it whimpers, crying out in unimaginable pain. The sound fuels you, enrages you. Again and again you level the cold steel against the dog. Blood splatters dot your face. You lick your lips tasting the warm, sticky fluid like some euphoric aphrodisiac. Over and over you beat the dog in a demonic fit of rage until finally, at last you stop. You let the shovel fall to your side. You inhale sharply and your blood pressure begins to return to normal. Look down and see what you have done, look at your work.
I hope this tiny little glimpse into Vick’s savagery can help to sway even a few of you. This man should not be celebrated, he should not be revered and he should not be idolized. If you do not see that, you and I are from worlds so far apart we will never reconcile.
As a nation we need to re-examine our moral compass and make the necessary adjustments because we are broken. We should not be able to so easily overlook such heinous actions. In our past, we would not have. I hope that we can find it in our national character to regain who we were. But, sadly this is one area in which I am not optimistic.
This is the last article I will publish regarding Michael Vick.
Next up – term limits for United States Congressmen and Senators. A public referendum is necessary – these self centered clowns will never do it on their own.

Playboy… Just stop. Im not quite sure we share exactly the same views for the same reasons. I thought CD could back up his statements himself and be able to rebut one one of my points as I did his. Or at least post what I had to say and let the people decide if they want to read it. He knows as well as I do the information he is witholding from all of you. Censoring the blog like Communist propaganda. This gives me the satisfaction of knowing that he can not handle one, one individual opposing his views. He is so comfortable sitting around waiting for his iphone to beep with another ego stroking message praising him for opening their eyes to the evil that he rants. This is his world only because he holds the “post to blog” and the “delete” button in his hands. After posting something of this nature he should expect some resistance… And some nasty comments. He chose to take this path. Now with one person here opposing him he gone with the wind. He once was super quick to correct grammar and spelling, or thank someone offering their 1st born. Now there is nothing. He has no fight, just wants to speak and be heard and absorb honors. He has no passion on the subject, or he would fight for what he believes in. Im glad Mike Vick does.

Yeah your right man. I’ll stop cuz I’m turning into Chris Durant and I don’t want that. You seen to have things under control. I’ll just sit back and chill. I just want him to give you a FAIR ONE.
September 4, 2011 at 1:03 pm
And yes we do share the same views, you have said everything I was thinking.
September 4, 2011 at 11:24 am

Freaking grow up. I can’t believe you (playboy) and Scarduzio have nothing better to go than post childish garbage on a blog. For God’s sake get a life. I’m so sick of people who think Football is the end all be all calling Vick or each other “heroes” for protecting Vick. Obviously you don’t know the meaning of the word. There are people out there every day saving LIVES. They are heroes. Not some childish men bragging about their so called intellectual or physical prowess. Go save a life. Then you can call yourself a hero. But until then go shut your trap.
September 4, 2011 at 7:24 pm

September 4, 2011 at 9:16 am
To Playboy and John – In your total stupidity, you fail to realize that Chris isn’t a coward nor scared to answer you…he is simply done dealing with the ignorant haters such as yourselves. As are the rest of us who support Chris. You don’t like his blog? No one really cares. Go find some other group to bash, because your words are worthless here.
Michael Vick, if not for football, would just be another lazy ass living off of welfare, He got lucky, that’s all. He plays football. That doesn’t make him a god. If you can’t get that through your thick skulls then you are just like the rest of the sheep out there. Go back to your flock and shut the fuck up.
Don’t bother trying to respond to my comment to bash me. I, too, will ignore you. Simply because I have no interest in what you have to say.
September 4, 2011 at 11:07 am

When you intentionally torture something that is completely incapacitated, crying & bleeding because you get some sort of inner enjoyment from it, you are a sociopath. When you have to torture creatures over & over for a 6 YEAR period, that’s not “sin”, it’s sociopathic behavior.
This wasn’t a one time mistake. It wasn’t forgetting to pick up milk at the store, it wasn’t changing a radio station in your car & having a fender bender, This wasn’t a one time or two time or even 3 time lapse of judgment, it was & is a deep rooted yearning to see already screaming & crying creatures suffer further for “fun”. Because Mike Vick & his boys thought that kind of thing was entertaining. They thought it was amusing to hear wails & screams of pain over & over.
Vick supporters continuously minimize the torture. Mike Vick wasn’t thinking about any higher power when he tortured for amusement. He wasn’t thinking of any God when he was knowingly spreading incurable disease to other human beings. To the people that want to so vehemently defend Vick, if it was your sister, mom, niece, aunt, daughter or any of the other women in your life that Vick knowingly maimed for life with incurable disease, would you still be so willing to shout down others? Would you still sticking up for him?
Vick supporters continuously minimize the torture. No one here is without sin, that I agree with but very few TORTURE other living creatures for amusement. INTENTIONALLY inflicting pain over & over is out & out sick, it has nothing to do with religion, it has nothing to do with forgiveness, it has nothing to do with redemption. It certainly has nothing to do with race, fandom or any of the other silly things Vick supporters want to scream. Vick supporters don’t want anyone else to have an opinion in regards to Mike Vick, it really shows their true feelings when they throw religion around but when someone disagrees with them how personal they get & how their faith seems to go right out the window with the comments they make. Vick defenders want it two ways, just like Mike Vick, religion is another card to use when it suits them.
The only difference between a serial killer & Mike Vick is Vick did it to animals. It’s the same mentality, the feelings of killing, torture & yearn for blood is the same. The satisfaction factor is the same. He deserved 10 years in prison, he got 18 months. He got off easy & this is why the court of public opinion feels as it does. No amount of “what are your sins” & you people are “haters” or screaming obtuse insults changes that.
September 4, 2011 at 7:30 pm
HERE WE GO WITH THE SAME SONG. I HOPE U DON’T EAT MEAT MIKE. IF YOU DO YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE. WHATS ABOUT WHEN PEOPLE HO HUNTING. AND DON’T GIVE ME THATS’ CUZ IT FOR FOOD”! TORTURE IS TORTURE. NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT. SOOO…..
September 4, 2011 at 8:39 pm
Killing & torture are two different things, do you understand the difference? Do you not understand the difference of killing for food & torturing because you enjoy it? The difference between business & ghoulish behavior for amusement? You really & honestly believe they are the same?
Do you think hunters go into the woods with the idea that it turns them on to torture what they wound? Have you ever heard of a hunter taking a wounded deer & with his buddies help, grabbing it by it’s back legs & swinging it over their heard, over & over as they break every bone in their preys body for kicks? As they stand there & laugh about it? Do hunters wound a deer or any prey, bring it back home, attach electrodes to it & throw it into a pool of water, shock it over & over & laugh as it screams in agony? Do hunters shoot a deer then stick a stick into it’s wound as it screams in pain as they administer more pain because they get off on hearing it’s wails of suffering? Why do Vick defenders not see the difference,
That is the difference playboy, the intentional enjoyment of inflicting more pain because you somehow get a warm feeling from it. The going to a place multiple times a week & torture for fun a bleeding hurt sick animal because seeing it suffer turns you on. Not to eat it, not to mercifully kill or with any intention of putting it out of it’s misery, just to hear it scream in pain & to watch it suffer. Why can you not see the absolute inherent evil attached to that?
Add to it his absolute disregard for other humans that he would knowingly pass incurable disease to other humans. Mike Vick has the same regard for women as he has for animals, none, If it was your sister, mom, niece, aunt, daughter or any of the other women in your life that Vick knowingly maimed for life with incurable disease, would you still be so willing to shout down others? Would you still sticking up for him?
September 4, 2011 at 8:49 pm
Mike let me ask you, ok why ain’t y’all boycotting Colorado? Yeah you know the state that has a ban on pit bulls?
September 4, 2011 at 8:45 pm
I DON’T KNOW IF YOU KNOW THIS BUT KILLING IS KILLING, YOU DON’T GO HUNTING SO YOU DON’T KNOW. PLUS DOG POUNDS KILLS MORE PIT BULLS THAN VICK WOULD EVER HAVE. GO BOYCOTT THEM.
September 4, 2011 at 9:14 pm
I don’t go hunting so I don’t know whether hunters torture prey? Thats your defense? seriously? Thats the rebuttal for the torture. They may do the things Vick did & I just wouldn’t know because I never went hunting huh? gawd, ya can’t really be serious with that .
Then your next argument is euthanasia, the over population of animals in this country is justification for going to a property multiple times a week for six years, planning some of the most horrific ways to torture animals because you get off on it, Euthanasia is your argument? You really believe the people at the pound get off on torturing animals before mercifully putting them to sleep? They beat them first because thats fun to them, they hang them by their necks to watch them fight, struggle, cry & whimper. They hold their heard underwater & watch them drown? You really believe the animal over population in this country justifies Vick electrocuting animals & killing them slowly as he double over in laughter? Euthanasia justifies people taking an animal that is bleeding, hurt, crying & torture it further. They are the same thing? Vick has a 130M dollar contract, he had vets onsite to pull the teeth of the rape stand females, why not let them kill the animals mercifully, giving them a shot? Because your boy enjoyed torturing them, hearing them scream. It’s sociopathic playboy.
Funny how you do not talk about the infection of other humans knowing you have incurable disease & how you don’t answer the question how you would feel if it was one of them women in your life playboy.
September 5, 2011 at 1:18 am
Whatever you say, it’s still not gonna bring the die dogs back, your wasting your time crying over spilled milk that’s got clean up years ago. Use your energy to save the dogs from the pound. As time go you’ll see we have more important things in life than worrying about some dead dogs.
September 5, 2011 at 10:49 am
When you have no real argument, it becomes whatever you say.
You wanted honest debate, when you get it you bring up ridiculous points & when someone handles those points you say “whatever”. Or you call them “hypocrite, faggot, old, trailer park people”. Thats how you debate, by calling names & shouting in caps.
You refuse to talk about the intentional torture for kicks & why you believe torture for amusement isn’t sick. You refuse to answer any questions about how you would feel if it was one of the women in your life that Vick knowingly & carelessly infected with incurable disease. Why do you intentionally dodge that question? We all know the reason even if you won’t admit it.
As all Vick defenders do, you keep trying to minimize your hero’s sick & premeditated torture because it made him all warm & fuzzy inside. Do you torture animals playboy? Why not? It doesn’t give you that euphoria? So you actually do understand that behavior is sick & won’t admit it. But you continue to stick up for a sociopath.
Here’s the difference playboy, when you actually educate yourself on someone so evil that they would multiple times a week for a 6 year period TORTURE for amusement. That they enjoyed hearing animals suffer by beating them for fun, electrocuting them for kicks & drowning them for entertainment YOU will realize that your boy is a no good ghoul that had as much compassion for sick animals as he did for women. And then maybe you’ll understand what people here have been trying to make you comprehend.
If Vick were some shlep on a corner in Newport News & didn’t play football, you, John & the rest of you Vick huggers wouldn’t care about him. We that understand animal torture & cruelty would still circulate petitions & write letters about him. And thats the difference playboy. We care about the animals, you wouldn’t care if he didn’t play ball.
September 5, 2011 at 12:04 pm
“Like” your comment Mike!
But it seems Playboy is at the point where he is arguing for the sake of arguing… standing his ground for the sake of standing his ground….
Even John had the sense to ask him to stop, and he’s still going on and on and on, only proving my points in my post from yesterday….
But then, as Syl noted, we shouldn’t expect him to “get it”…
I say we stop responding to him. If he wants to argue for the sake of argument, let’s let him attempt to have an argument with himself…. could be fun to watch….
September 5, 2011 at 11:23 am
How many dog do you save when you say’ VICK TOTURED DOGS? Will they ever come back. And if your doing it for the dogs about people how have fought dogs, why is just VICK’S dogs your soooooo worried about. I see you gossiping like a female saying I don’t have an argument. Well Vick playing and the NFL, SIGNED WITH NIKE, SUBWAY SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR, NFL COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEARS AND YOUR PISSED ABOUT EVERYTHING. I GUEES WHEN YOUR ON THE OTHER SIDE CRYING A RIVER I DOMT NEED AN ARGUEMENT. HAVE FUN CRYING ABOUT VICK. GO GET YOUR BOTTLE BIG BABY.
September 5, 2011 at 11:26 am
I am really sick and bored with your dumb ass and constant barage of insults. Goodbye Larry, Tyler, Playboy…. go annoy someone else or maybe just start up your own “I LOVE JOHN and MIKE” page.
September 5, 2011 at 12:08 pm
As usual, name calling.
No argument & back to screaming in caps.
You don’t disappoint playboy. True to form.
Would you still be slicking up for Vick if he infected your mom, sister, niece, daughter, aunt or any of the women in your life with incurable sexual disease knowing he had it, Would you still be here sticking up for him if he treated one of the women in your life just as he did the animals?

You are as ignorant as you are long winded. Colossians 3:13 : “Forgive as the Lord forgave you”
The forget must have been your addition/translation.

I wish there was a “like” button for this one…
So true Linda!

Jesus used violence. He used a whip to drive the money changers out of the temple because of their corporate greed. Which I took to be the gist of Durant’s frustrations. Nike, HSUS, Subway, Millan, anyone supporting corporate profit over welfare issues.
Some of the first animal cruelty legislation was in the Old Testiment. “Do not bind the mouth of the ox as it treads the hay.”
Don’t play the Christian card unless you’ve read the bible.
September 3, 2011 at 6:02 pm
Great points, Yvette…
and if we’re going to list those corporations who have a big “Corporate Greed stake” in the repackaging of Michael Vick, let’s not forget the biggest one of all…
The NFL…
September 3, 2011 at 6:17 pm
To the ladies here…
It seems that our support of Chris is being used in an attempt to emasculate him. I think Chris is extremely masculine… I also think he is correct and I don’t mind supporting him. And it’s not just for the fact that he is rather handsome, but because he is intelligent and not afraid to speak the truth.
Anyone else want to see a picture of Playboy and John?
We can compare their intelligence right here in these posts, but without a picture, we can’t even give them any points for trying….
September 3, 2011 at 7:31 pm
My picture was here for days… Until it became some stupid “Gravatar.” This is probably something that CD uses and profits off of by linking to their site and selling our email addresses to. Scumbag.
Try again… MY name and picture are very public, google me like CD did. He already said he spent most of his day looking up “Playboys” online presence, im sure I didnt elude his attention either. He knows who I am, where I work, and the things I do, Im sure “Lynn Doe.” Shut up, ass. Another useful post and point from yet another brilliant writer. Lets stay on topic folks!
September 3, 2011 at 8:05 pm
You’re cute, John
(young and with a lot of maturing to do, but cute)…
so you do get points for trying…
And thanks for this post – I really can’t thank you enough for proving my point in my post from earlier today.
I agree to disagree with you, John. Enjoy your football season.
September 4, 2011 at 1:24 am
I must admit Lynn I forgot I was replying to a woman. I have run into so much other nonsence here my fingers just typed it. I apologise for the “shut up ass” comment. Ther rest however, I agree that you and I can happily disagree. And being a Philadelphia sports fan I assure you I will enjoy this upcoming season. I can also guarantee you that my position on MV would remain regardless of the jersey he wears. To me, he is just a Man.
September 4, 2011 at 10:01 am
Thank you for your apology, John.
As you go on in life, there are times when you will have to choose to agree to disagree with people. There will be stalemates, and even some things for which you can find no resolution or no common ground.
Like you, I am a Philadelphia Sports fan, but my opinion on this differs from yours, so I cannot support the Eagles. I have Philly friends who can, and do, and I have Philly friends who, like me, cannot.
I was one of those little girls who would mercifully try to save a baby bird that couldn’t fly. I grew up to go to work in the medical profession and I worked for many years in Critical Care, and in the OR, in a major trauma center in Philadelphia. I have seen what happens inside of a body as a result of all kinds of trauma. I know we are people and dogs are dogs, but they are still living creatures and they feel pain and suffer just as we do. As humans, we can try to find a way of escape. These dogs had no way out and no where to run. I find that chilling.
So, for me – and this is *my* opinion – I cannot, no matter how hard I try, forget what he did. I cannot, not matter how hard I try, wrap my arms around the level of disconnect that it must take for *any* human being to treat an animal with such cold, intentional and disconnected brutality. And *enjoy* it as a “sport”.
Having worked in the medical profession, I have seen far too many people who were victims at the hands of people who were capable of this kind of disconnect from a sense of compassion and respect for the life of an innocent and dependent person or animal. I put it right up there with the abuse and killing of innocent infants and dependent children. It is not normal. It is pathologic. And it is scary when people are capable of this. And what’s even scarier, is that most of the time, they are likable, friendly, “normal” people. But then they can just somehow disconnect from any vestige of mercy toward another life, and *enjoy* it.
I agree that – in many cases – people should have second chances. But if we are to be honest, there are times they should not. I would not want the man who had a cold enough disconnect to walk down a line of people who were waiting to meet Gabrielle Giffords – shooting and killing both old and young without a shred of conscience or compassion – to have a second chance. I have a friend who was killed instantly by a drunk driver, driving 80+ MPH on a country road, without a license, in the middle of the afternoon, who was on his *third* chance. My friend would still be here if we – our system – had stopped at his second chance. So now she is dead and he is being tried for vehicular manslaughter. Sometimes nobody wins with a second, or a third chance.
So as a Philadelphia native and a Philadelphia sports fan, I really do understand your passion for the Eagles. And you have no idea how much it bothers me that I cannot support the NFL team that I have supported for my entire life. But to me, the man remains frightening and I cannot root for him or cheer for him, because as I celebrate an Eagles touchdown, I can’t help but think “this is how he used to cheer for the dogs”…. I just can’t do it John, so I just have to choose to agree to disagree on this.
And I think that is probably how most of those who fall on the “Chris” side of the MV argument feel. No one is going to persuade the other to change their view. But I think we can have a discussion without swearing at one another and cyber-yelling at each other with cap lock on.
Chris has his opinion. And this is, after all is said and done, Chris’ blog. So really, he can opine as he chooses to opine. He has no requirement that *anyone* agree with him. That’s pretty much what blogs are for. And just as you agree to disagree with me, it’s just as easy – and much less stressful – to agree to disagree with him.
Thanks again, John… and Go Phillies!
September 4, 2011 at 10:12 am
@Lynn
Your comment about second chances for murderers, pedophiles, drunk drivers…
spot on. If someone can disregard life once they can do it again. Second chances on violent offenders is absurd when seen in that light.
Let’s not forget that dog fighting encompasses many criminal behaviours. From gambling to forced rape on the female dogs, to steroid use to killing, mutilation.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
September 5, 2011 at 12:58 pm
Lynn, the world needs more people like you. Your last reply here was so obviously heartfelt that it couldn’t have been more beautifully explained & eloquently written. I couldn’t agree more!
September 3, 2011 at 10:33 am
…”Vick is the poster boy for the miseducation of the black male athlete. Somewhere the boys that grow into these incomplete men have been failed miserably. Instead of preparing them to interact with the real world, they exist in a fantasy where there are no consequences for their actions. Luckily, for him — like Tiger Woods — he found out that there are consequences and confronted them. Vick has proven that he is an improved man. I am not going to say that he has changed. I do not know him personally, but I will say that at least now he is appreciative. A few years behind bars will train a man in a new way: to be thankful for the gifts that you do have and to not squander the opportunities you get when they eventually come your way. Perhaps Vick should be a role model for this reason: he took advantage of a second chance.”
The Takeaway – By Ibrahim Abdul-Matin
—–
For the people that use the argument that MV “never apologized for what he did”… Yes he did.
http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=3207343n
—–
For the people who say MV has not done anything recently to help prevent dog fighting in the future… MV is currently (between a extremely demanding pro football schedule) backing a bill that makes spectating a dog fight a felony. “If you take away the profits, you take away dogfighting” MV says. See it for your own eyes here…
http://www.politico.com/blogs/click/0711/Michael_Vick_backs_antidogfighting_bill.html#
—–
Get educated people… know the facts and make your own choices. MV is saving animals lives on a daily basis. He has single handedly brought the most attention to the dog fighting world. Raised awareness, raised funds and spends HIS TIME in private and on Capital Hill speaking against it. To the point that he is called “THE LEADER in the fight against animal creulty.” Did you get that? The Leader. Not Wayne Pacelle, not Ingrid Newkirk and certainly not Chris Durant or the organizations they represent. *** So go ahead and supress the most influential man that you have for “your cause.” You all should be rallying behind him with the majority of people that REALLY care about the issue. Seems to me that there are other underlying reasons why people like CD are singling out MV. Hmmm… Have any of you fanatics ever even heard of Floyd Boudreaux or Pat Patrick?? Doubt it.
I will be running this page up with FACTS for all of you to see and read with your own eyes. I doubt many of you will look at it because you turn away so quickly -or- it will be deleted by Chris so he can spread his propaganda.
September 3, 2011 at 10:03 am
Chris – please don’t let the few who challenge you here dissuade you from sharing your opinion. They sound like they have that passion that Philadelphia fans are so famous (and sometimes notorious) for. They mock you and say you are in the minority, which makes me think that they are die-hard no-matter-what Eagles fans.
As a Philly native and former Eagles fan, I would like to note – for you AND for them – that once people get outside of the Philadelphia area, and away from the Eagles talking points, you are NOT in the minority. The only people who I know who so adamantly feel the need to defend and support Michael Vick are those passionate Eagles fans who love their city and it’s sports. But if we were to remove this passion from them, they would not be among the best and most loyal sports fans in the world.
As one who was born and raised there, I understand this passion and would not want to see Philadelphia fans without it. I can easily agree to disagree with Eagles fans on this, but I have found that (sadly) most of those who are die-hard, loyal, devoted Eagles fans seem unable to return the courtesy. And this is a sure sign of passionate loyalty gone awry – a loyalty that has morphed into a blind kind of worship that stubbornly allows for no one to have a differing viewpoint. Philly people are good and loyal people, but like most Yankees, we can sometimes be proud and stubborn people who will hold our ground for the sake of holding our ground over all else.
When one moves out of the perspective of the vast majority of the people in the country (and I daresay the world), who share your view, and into the mind of a dedicated, loyal, devoted, die-hard, proud, passionate, and yet myopic, Philadelphia Eagles fan with their eye set on a potential for a Super Bowl win for the home team, one can only feel sorry for this kind of blindness. But it’s exactly the same kind of blindness of the few that always tends to give the generally fine sports fans of Philadelphia a bad name.
So to be honest, I’m not surprised to find a few of them stopping in here to stand their ground, flex their cyber muscles, and bully you. As a Philly girl, let me tell you the best way to get rid of a bully. You are right. You don’t *need* to defend yourself. Ignore the bullies…. your time is valuable…. don’t waste it…
September 3, 2011 at 10:58 am
Chris is a grown man, if he was going to write and talk sh$t about someone then he should back his sh$t up. When you guys jump in to help it only shows Chris can’t HANDLE SOMEONE GIVING HIM A CHALLENGE. IF YOU GUYS CAN STATE YOUR OPINION WHY CAN’T WE. JOHN SCARDUZIO JUST MADE CHRIS LOOK STUPID ON HIS OWN BLOG. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

The national examiner? Quality news source. Great headlines on the main page. Ugh.
September 3, 2011 at 12:53 pm
Yes the same way you ignore the haters. You won’t see this comment b/c CD deletes me and doesn’t allow my comments to appear.
September 3, 2011 at 3:03 pm
What case do you rest? Chris can defend for himself, he’s a grown man. And shouldn’t you be saving Lassie from the dog pound?
I REST MY CASE!
September 3, 2011 at 5:01 pm
Sadly, you are proving Lynn’s point. But then we don’t expect you to get it…
September 4, 2011 at 2:02 am
Your words make you cute yourself. Well put Lynn. This is not about the Philadelphia Eagles. Its about understanding, forgivness and acceptance. Not hate, suppression and persecution. Have you read what people are saying? Its all I see here. People talking religion, race, bitter insults calling for a mans life and suffering a graphic slow death. Sounds like some kind of uncivilized anarcist blogsite. With contributors spewing the most ignorant comments I’ve ever read towards an individual. All conceived by this man Chris Durant. I picture HIM in the center of his bloodthirsty description of a killing frenzy above. He is in the center w blood on his hands. Then you encourage and praise him. Chris is the madman. That smug look on his head in the photo above simply looks like a very disturbed man inside. Don’t you agree? Added to his words he writes he is clearly a ravaged man with serious carnal deficiencies.
September 4, 2011 at 11:18 am
WELL SAID AGAIN JOHN. WOW THIS IS TO EASY FOR YOU.
YOUR DA MAN
YOUR DA MAN
YOUR DA MAN
AND CHRIS DIDNT COME OUT FROM HIDING. HES SCARED OF YOU JOHN. SOMEBODY TELL CHRIS TO GIVE JOHN A FAIR ONE.
September 2, 2011 at 6:18 pm
look I have 2 pits, I think what he was part of was very bad…but he paid he debit he want to jail, and this is america everyone deserves a second chance
September 3, 2011 at 5:25 pm
he DID NOT SPEND 2 seconds of time for MURDERING and torturing those dogs . DO YOUR RESEARCH…he don’t deserve anything but the next 30 years in jail
September 3, 2011 at 7:12 pm
In North America, there’s this thing called a criminal record. It supposed to follow you around like a bad credit bureau. So doctors, lawyers, teachers…any normal people…can’t get a job in their field because it would put people in danger.
Unless you’re in sports. You’re allowed to go back to life as usual because you can throw a ball.
The NFL does not have the same rules for employment that most of the rest of North America has. And corporate sponsorship doesn’t either. That’s the problem.
September 3, 2011 at 7:49 pm
YES in America we have these people called extreme morons.
You are right – it should be doctors, teachers, lawyers and FOOTBALL PLAYERS that are occupations you can not have after getting out of jail and serving the penalty that a judge gave you.
Perhaps a court order of a minimum-wage job for the rest of time should be included in the sentence.
Do any of you people have your own opinion about anything? Actually have some sort of intellegent mental thought process? Im not too sure you do.
Of thee I sing!!!
September 6, 2011 at 2:20 am
Yes he did Kim, read something other tham Durants page and the national inquirer. Please.
Also… animals are killed, not murdered (in caps). Murder is specificly reserved for humans. Moving up the ladder now -there is assassination. This is reserved for people of a high stature. People like Mike Vick get assassinated… People like Chris Durant get killed. See the difference? Class dismissed.
September 2, 2011 at 5:17 pm
Nice write-up. Corporate greed (or just plain greed in general, I guess) fuels so much that is wrong with our society (and that’s NOT Capitalism). From Nike reconciling with Vick (you can be sure they wouldn’t have done it had research shown that it would have damaged their brand, but they made a well-researched and calculated move at this specific point in time in order to make money–it’s the same reason they jumped ship and didn’t wait around to ditch him after the charges were brought in the first place), to our public servants in Congress. I’m sick to death of the payoffs that take place in that cesspool of greed. Besides term limits, these people must not be allowed to accept campaign donations (or payoffs once in office) from special interests and corporations, it’s that simple. Clearly, it’s a conflict of interest for a Senator to be accepting large donations from Big Oil, and then turn around and vote on some bill regarding oil drilling regulation. And the only reason I can fathom that this is still allowed is because they’re making the rules for themselves. Used to be that we had the three level model of government to achieve checks and balances to no one ran away with all the power, except there are no real checks and balances of these mega-rich corporations, special interest groups, and even individuals that would flash their money to see a vote go their way. Capitalism is great, but what we have going in this country is not really Capitalism as it’s supposed to be. Capitalism isn’t supposed to generate so many victims, whether that’s dogs or the Middle Class.
September 2, 2011 at 2:13 pm
I was just on your Facebook page. Why, oh why Mr Durant are you a fan of Subway? Is it just to keep abreast to what the “enemy” is doing or are you getting your coupons and promotions there? Oops! What about the Cleveland Browns?? Ugh Oh! Go ahead and delete that now. You all talk Mr Durant. Full of hate and bitterness. Let your people stroke your ego. The rest of us will sit, watch and laugh. Ba-hahahahahaaaa
September 2, 2011 at 2:20 pm
Your laugh read surprisingly similar to the sound a sheep makes.
September 3, 2011 at 1:59 am
That was probably his point, CD. I got my comments deleted for having an opinion different than you and agreeing with john scarduzio..
I just feel that you, CD, are a hypocrite in many ways. I also read some things about you that clearly give you an agenda that you don’t speak of.
How can you say people don’t deserve a second chance and take full advantage of it? Seriously? Vick committed a federal offense and paid in every aspect of his life. He had his career, possible prison term, and $100 million dollars to say “um, no” when facing that situation. You can hate him, there’s a million people to hate for all kinds of reasons. You piss me off, but I don’t hate you. You just enjoy an arrogance war like the next guy. But you’re kind of ignorant to many things.
You left out so many MV quotes and only inserted out of context quotes. I wanna give you an off the record quote from MV. “You know prison doesn’t change alot people, but it changed me.”
Instead of judging me and deleting my comments. You just can’t say things like everyone deserves a second chance, but the second chance can’t be lucrative or good. It just has to be equal to just being allowed out of jail. BUT with restrictions that don’t just include the ability to not vote. I think in your gut, you’re afraid to engage with anyone that has a different opinion. It’s okay for people to disagree. I have an opinion, not an agenda. Has the world come to a cynical world that hates good stories and roots for failure? I disagree. Dude, it’s okay.
And I’m sticking with my theory that you and half of America knew not even 1/4 of what they know now about dog fighting. And that’s b/c of Vick. And that raised more awareness than any ad campaign. Which leads to more dogs surviving. All I think Scarduzio meant and I agree with him.
September 3, 2011 at 10:39 am
Yet another smug remark with no answer to my questions. No wonder your bitter at the NFL, your a closet Browns fan.
September 3, 2011 at 3:07 am
In order for ME and others to let SUBWAY know how we feel about them “YOU HAVE TO LIKE THEIR PAGE” to comment. I wish you would just poof into this air with your STUPID rants. You have clearly shown me you are a MORON.
I am full of hate and bitterness that me and my DOGS have to share the planet with POS trash that were BORN THUGS and gonna die thugs. #7 and all the ones like him deserve to die the same horrible death the dogs did. If his MURDER OF DOGS DOES NOT PISS YOU OFF….. WTF is wrong with you ???? I know what he did ….do YOU ?????? go look into the eyes of one of the surviving dogs and see if that helps you not to be such an ASSHOLE. Call me any name you want, John – #7 is a POS ….period
September 3, 2011 at 5:17 am
Once I had found out about SubWay, I became a fan just so I could post messages on their wall, stating my disgust for Michael Vick. I leave messages which are taken down very quickly. I am grateful that someone has the courage to speak out. Thank you, Chris Durant!!
September 3, 2011 at 10:53 am
JOHN YOUR MY HERO BIG DOG. YOU GAVE CHRIS WHAT’S HIS NAME A REALTY CHECK. I like the part where Chris said quote” YOUR LAUGH READ SURPRISINGLY SIMILAR TO THE SOUND A SHEEP MAKES. HAHAHAHA REALLY???? REALLY CHRIS? YOU JUST FOUND OUT THAT VICK GOT A $100M CONTRACT THEN HERE YOU COME WRITING LIKE A SHEEP”. WHATS WRONG? WHY YOU COULDN’T HAVE AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION WITH MR JOHN SCARDUZIO? ARE YOU AGRAID HE WILL EXPOSE YOU FOR THE FAKE THAT YOU ARE? ARE YOU SCARED HE’S RIGHT AND YOUR WRONG. GO AHEAD LIKE YOU TELL EVERYONE. SHOW YOUR TRUE COLORS. HAHAHAHA. JOHN SCARDUZIO MADE YOU LOOK STUPID ON YOUR OWN BLOG. LMFAO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GREAT JOB JOHN SCARDUZIO.
September 2, 2011 at 1:11 pm
Thank you. Sharing with all the sheep in my network, and friends who will share as well.
September 2, 2011 at 11:15 am
We burned our Nikes. Our dog helped do it.
Seems just wrong to wear them. Chris you are certainly correct that the choices we make reflect our values. I feel so devastated that corporate money making and PR management has whitewashed somethig so cruel.
To all those people who say it’s just a dog, remember that people who fight dogs are intentionally creating significant aggression. Those dogs become a danger to society and put innocent people and children in harm’s way. It leads to breed bans where other innocent people loose family pets and are still facing threats of violence because they are walking a bully breed of dog. Other people are still paying for the actions of dog fighters. Vick, he seems to be rewarded.
September 2, 2011 at 11:22 am
Awesome video Yvette. I will be re-posting to Facebook. Thank you!
September 2, 2011 at 11:49 am
No problem. Please don’t stop writing about this. You are so right to point out how many organizations are working to sweep this under the rug … trying to make people who oppose Vick’s return the bad guy by making passive aggressive statements about “forgiveness” etc.
We are not the ones who killed the dogs. We are not the ones who sponsored the return of a dog killer. We are not the ones profiting with merchandising sales.
If you sleep with dogs…oh wait…I’d rather sleep with dogs.
We need to keep speaking up and keep making our point. It’s back to school shopping time, we need to make shopping choices that reflect our values.
September 2, 2011 at 8:23 pm
Awesome video Yvette! And a good dog, too!
September 3, 2011 at 12:47 am
Thanks Lynn,
Yeah Kips’ pretty cool. What’s funny is that he doesn’t chew shoes. Just Nikes.
September 3, 2011 at 3:12 am
AWESOME…. Good Boy KIP ♥♥♥♥
September 3, 2011 at 5:20 am
That was an awesome video!!
September 2, 2011 at 10:37 am
I was sitting at swim club yesterday when I overheard a woman extolling the vitures of the iggles and dick. I could not contain myself or my anger. I said how can you like a sociopathic dog killing herpes spreading monster? She said it was just dog fighting. How ignorant! I set her straight on the real dick but I don’t think it matters cause she has super bowl dreams. I swear iggles fans would overlook a monster convicted of possesion of kiddie porn, if they thought he would win them the lombardi. They would rationalize it by saying oh he didn’t touch kids he just looked at pictures. I for one will never watch the iggles or support any company that sponsers a monster
September 4, 2011 at 8:05 pm
Tell us What really happened. You make it seen like you did all this but I bet u didn’t say nothing. You was just thinking it.
September 2, 2011 at 10:32 am
You put a space in between SportsCenter and didn’t mention ESPN’s White Michael Vick story or image. And Barry Bonds isn’t likely to see ANY jail time. It also would have been nice if you mentioned the successful Rehabilitation of nearly all of the surviving Vick dogs.
September 2, 2011 at 10:44 am
Ryan – thank you. “SportsCenter” has been corrected.
September 2, 2011 at 12:11 pm
np. you also asked “Why not air “Vick’s 10 Worst Moments”? ”
My best answer for this is SportsCenter saves the worst plays of the week for the “Not Top 10,” which airs on Friday. I figure that when Vick was found guilty, he was included in that week’s Not Top 10.
September 2, 2011 at 12:23 pm
Once again, Ryan, thank you for your insight. You certainly seem to have the pulse of ESPN and SportsCenter. You’re not that ‘producer’ I mentioned are you?
September 2, 2011 at 12:39 pm
Vick pled guilty. He wasn’t found guilty. ESPN reported that the details of the bargain were being kept secret according to the lawyers.
September 2, 2011 at 1:07 pm
No, I’m not the producer. I’m just a really big fan of ESPN and Lady Gaga.
September 2, 2011 at 6:06 pm
THE SUCCESSFUL REHABILITATION OF THE SURVIVING VICK DOGS WAS NO THANKS TO HIM!!! IT WAS ALL THE VOLUNTEERS WHO HAD THE LOVE, AND PATIENCE TO WORK WITH THESE POOR, INNOCENT DOGS. VICK ONLY MAIMED, AND TORTURED THESE POOR, INNOCENT SOULS. I WONDER IF THESE TEENAGERS AND MEN WHO ARE DOING HORRENDOUS THINGS TO DOGS THINK, “MICHAEL VICK IS MY HERO BECAUSE HE’S A GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYER, THIS CAN’T BE SO BAD IF HE DID IT.”
I DON’T CARE WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT HIM DOING HIS TIME. HE HASN’T DONE A PORTION OF WHAT HE NEEDS TO DO AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED. ANYONE WHO COULD DO THOSE CRUEL THINGS HAS NO HEART, SOUL, OR CONSCIENCE. PEOPLE SHOULDN’T REVERE HIM, THEY SHOULD DESPISE HIM.
HE IS A SPINELESS COWARD TO DO THESE THINGS TO A DEFENSELESS CREATURE.
September 2, 2011 at 9:28 am
Open Letter to Michael Vick:
This letter is a respectful request – or at least as much respect as I can muster to make what amounts to such a coarse request – for you to ‘just go away.’
I have no desire to hear you expound on your theories of dog ownership; no more so than you care to hear me predict the next NFL drafts. Your sad sacks of apologists are wearing my nerves thin also. “Give him another chance, everyone makes a mistake!” they say.
Funny, a good percentage of the public has no problem not making these types of …ahem…”mistakes.” I don’t wake up in the morning and wrestle with [frightening] ideas that are roaming in your all too empty skull such as – electrocute a dog today or drown it? After all, ‘we’re just people trying to make some money here.’ Those thoughts don’t enter my head. Because they’re immoral from their conception to illegal at their culmination. As my mom likes to say, “my brain just can’t go there.” I have no problem not breaking the law. Lots of people have no problem following “the rules” – of life, of law. My brain (and my SOUL) doesn’t permit me to create, seek out or enter situations where I’d have to make such horrid choices. Clearly that is not the case for you. Your damaged nature draws you to create these scenarios, thrive in them, and then totally disconnect from your actions when the blame comes around.
Does that mean you’re devoid of a brain and a soul? I’m going to bet on yes. My bet is you’re also rife with personality disorders discovered and yet undiscovered – you’re a buffet of behavioral malfunctions that defy science as far as I can tell. And your apologists? Well, I’m going to guesstimate they fall into that group where cognitive dissonance is clearly MIA. I’m going to surmise that because there are a few vocal fools who follow you religiously (about the only religious experience these types will ever have) you feel comfortable in your prior actions. Don’t let the vocal minority fool you. Your lobbying group’s worst fear is likely the dismantling of their favorite sports teams if someone ever decides one day to remove all the rapists, thieves and social deviates like yourself from the NFL, they won’t have jack shit to do on Sunday and Monday nights. It’s not really because they believe you’re some sort of hero. You’re really just a cretin in a uniform, and those apologists of yours are just betting money on you, because ‘they’re all just people trying to make some money.’
It’s a shame that when your time in the NFL is up, and your bones are weary and your age catches up with you and you’re no longer a useful moneymaker to the NFL…a nice electrocution won’t be waiting for you.

Excellent letter! Would it defeat the purpose if I said I’d hold his feet?!!
September 2, 2011 at 9:10 am
It’s incredibly sad, because all this idolizing of Vick is doing is showing you can be a criminal, kill animals, be a sociopath and you will be rewarded. Because hey, after all it IS the NFL, National Felon League.
September 2, 2011 at 8:40 am
What a well written piece which really tells it like it is. Thank you! I don’t wish death on Michael Vick. But he should certainly not be playing in the NFL.
I am quite sure that Michael Vick WILL get caught dog fighting again. And all the people who said he deserved a second chance will have MORE dogs’ deaths on their hands.
September 2, 2011 at 5:11 am
I would like for everyone, who has posted a comment to take a moment, and consider this idea . Any person, who claims to be a dog lover, or morally correct ,that has a cute little pure breed dog ,that u call scruffy, fluffy or mr. whiskers is the direct result of selective breeding, which means ,many animals were destroyed at some point ,to arrive at the end result (even the bullie breeds!),the breed you own today. The means by which they were culled varied ,from breaking necks, to shooting, and even drowning. To accomplish a breed standard some were even forced to mate with siblings to achieve desired atributes! Somehow though that gets forgotten and while I don’t condone that ,or Mr.Vick’s practices, it happens, alot more than we admit to ourselves.
I read quite a few of your folks’ rants and rage filled text and witnessed an attack of a man(john s), because his opinion differed from the general concensus, all the while preaching about morals, yet more often than i’ll list people wished harm and ill will toward Mike Vick, when you do that sort of thing do consider his kids being fatherless, or his wife a widow? I even read that one woman would consider adultery, with Mr Durant because she was so moved by his position on this matter, yet you all keep crying out where are the morals?
I believe Mr Durants article was well meaning but missed its mark, inadvertantly showing the lack of morals, compasion and humanity, not just in the idol worship of celebrity, and celebrity pardoning (Mike Vick being the sacrificial lamb in this senerio), but also in the supporters of his article ! Really? elctrocute him, kill him, drown him ? REALLY? will that bring those dogs back or undue anything that is done most sane people know the answer is no, but it may serve to quench a mob of torch and pitchfork weilding zelots blood lust in the name of justice .
Its funny how using a portion of a person statment ,a.k.a confirmation bias, can be twisted to suit our position. The dogs in question were not fluffy house pets with doe eyes they were trained killers for a sport, still wrong, but not fluffy freindly poodles.
And everyone that hates Mr. vick so much and turns away from him on tv and press interviews say with out doubt he hasn’t expressed remorse? and to hate an entire football team and wish them ill for one man, you people are banking all sorts of bad karma.
I personally met Mike while out with my son, and he out with his kids he was friendly, approachable, and humbled seemed geniunely loving with his kids and took time out of his outing for us! There were no thugs, was no entourage, and defenitely no cameras!!
As far as further punishment he’ll get that from now till the day he meets his maker ,from the likes of the hate mongers in this world! He has to look in and know why she can’t have a puppy like her freinds , I personally wouldn’t want that role.
One final thought is for all the would be supporters of the eagles ,if it wasn’t for Vick, you are hipicrits anyone who watches any sport especially violent ones like football are human dogfighters, paying and some even betting on one team beating the hell out of the other team ,and sadley there have been deaths related to football and post career depression, which has resulted in suicide . He will only be in football a little,so you can wallow in angry ,rage and negativity ,and expend you efforts boycotting him and his sponsors ,or spend your time positively and help your causes, rescues and animals !!
September 2, 2011 at 8:44 am
First of all, as a proud owner and advocate for pit bulls, I will tell you that pit bulls ARE the lovely house pets that you are saying they cannot be. Pit bulls need to be TRAINED to be bad and to fight. It is not as innate as many people think. AmStaffs (a member of the pit bull group) have been bred for numerous years to be companion animals and were known as Nanny dogs. So, please, Glenn, get your story straight.
Incidentally, it has been reported that Michael Vick did, in fact, use his family pet (Fluffy) as a bait dog.
September 7, 2011 at 4:08 am
never said pitbulls cannot be loving house pets please read again stated the pitbulls that were being tourtured were not house pets but trained fighters ,I personally have rehabed many pits, and know they were bred for many reasons including weight pulling as wells as pets, they are a terrier breed which lends to a tenacious nature ,which i`s why they are used in protection and fighting sports . I love all dogs and have nothing against pitbulls and think breed specific laws suck , you claim it has been reported that he used one of his own dogs ,I thought a majority of the dogs were his dogs, and it was his kennel. I know alot of people with ring sport dogs and protection animals that are their pets but i would say they were friendly…so please laurie get your story straight and know i love dogs hate abuse of any kind to animal or human and believe we all will answer to a higher power when the time comes, by the way a lady was recently killed by 5 pitbulls ,she owned in Philly, her pets ,and i still don’t have anything against them. I would also like to say all of my dogs are rescues, but funny how when i am ready to adopt an animal from a shelter all i see is mostly pitt bulls in rescues where are they all coming from ?
September 7, 2011 at 12:00 pm
Glenn, thanks for your articulate response. And if I may step in for Laurie, I understand your comment/argument about pits being pets as well as work dogs and unfortunately fighters. However, the situation I believe that Laurie was referring to and which I have mentioned as well is cited in the Department of Agriculture’s interview(s). I don’t think (supposition on my part) that Vick would have considered many if any of the 66 dogs that were taken from his property as pets. However, the DoA report is specific in its referral of the two dogs that were “placed into the ring” as “Family Pets”. The report goes on to state that:
I have included a link to this document – Department of Agriculture Report. This specific citation can be found on the eleventh page – titled “Exhibit 6, page 2 of 2″. It is the 5th paragraph down. – CD
September 2, 2011 at 10:44 am
Glen, with all due respect, how much research & reading have you done on people that torture animals? Do you understand they deep rooted inner sickness that comes with intentionally torturing animals for amusement & doing it multiple times a week for SIX YEARS. Are you aware of what mental health professionals & the FBI have written on the subject? Maybe I am wrong here, but from your words, one would have to assume you haven’t done much research on this topic.
I understand your perception of how Mike Vick acted when you met him with your son. How outwardly he seemed charming but are you aware of the traits of sociopaths & how they are able to turn on the charm & make people feel they are “normal & unthreatening”? The ability of a sociopath to make people believe they are fine is well documented in regards to people like Ted Bundy. All of his victims went with him willingly, although he was killing many women. There were no outward signs of his sickness. This is just like a Mike Vick. Many convicts & con men sharpen their social skills in situations just like you describe. Sorry, just because Mike Vick seemed loving with his children to you, doesn’t change what his actions tell us he really is. As you want to call others hypocrites, one would say what you came away believing when you met Vick was very naive. Not sure why one would bring their children around a convicted felon of violent crime though, one would think we would want to keep our children as far away as possible from an individual that is a known torturer of animals, an individual that spread incurable disease to unsuspecting women & a pathological liar. If Mike Vick had infected your daughter, your son’s wife or daughter, your niece, your aunt, your wife or gf with an incurable disease, knowing he had it after receiving treatment under an assumed name, would you still be bringing your son to meet him? Would you still be here calling others hypocrites?
Your point on breeders is well taken & I also very much agree. The cruelty in breeding is a horrible thing. Many of us work on helping abused animals all the time though just as Mike Vick worked on torturing them weekly for many years. Vick defenders always want to turn it back around, “what about you” they say but that is just the smoke screen. I certainly understand other people do have “sin” but only the extremely sick take something bleeding, crying & torture it further for enjoyment. Even for breeders, it’s a business not amusement. How can people not see the intentional, premeditated ghoul that Mike Vick is?
Lastly Glenn, how do you think the animals you call “trained killers” became trained killers? They were born that way? Or do guys like Mike Vick train them to be that way Glenn? Do you really believe that the dogs are the criminals & Mike Vick is the victim & was doing the world a favor by TORTURING them?? Mike Vick took poodles & beagles & threw them into the ring & laughed as they were torn apart, what part of that do you not understand?? Do you not understand animals do not have choices & Mike Vick did have choices & he CHOSE to train them to be killers & he CHOSE to torture them? And the people that understand animal torture are the “hate mongers”?
Seriously?? Men like Chris Durant are hero’s Glenn, they take subjects like this & say the things that NEED to be said. They question society’s twisted moral compass & I applaud him.
Maybe that IS the difference, I applaud society’s hero’s like Chris Durant & you applaud sociopaths like Mike Vick
September 2, 2011 at 8:37 pm
While we take caution to not lump Pit Bulls into a stereotype, let’s also not lump all breeders into the Michael Vick category.
I know dozens of breeders who are keeping various breeds of animals from extinction through loving and devoted breeding programs. I know folks who breed pedigreed dogs, cats and horses. And every single breeder that I know loves their animals, carefully chooses loving homes for their animals, and they all – without fail – consider Michael Vick to be a sociopathic monster bought his way to a deal that none of the rest of us could afford or manipulate to happen. NONE of the breeders that I know would even consider destroying a puppy, kitten or foal, and on their behalf, I find the suggestion a bit offensive and very much worth challenging.
Though most of them have issues withs HSUS that are completely unrelated to the Michael Vick issue, all of them find it to be a bizarre double standard that the man in charge of the HSUS would embrace this monster. And all shudder at the thought of him *ever* owning a dog…
As do I….
September 7, 2011 at 5:39 am
i applaud you angelo you outed me , i am not the mental health expert i thought i was ! good for you ! What is wrong with people today can be summed up by your ridiculous attack on me for expressing an opinion ,you obviously didn’t read what i wrote i simply said it “seemed” like he was an okay guy!! never did i say i applaud Mike Vick ,or i thought him a hero so get your facts straight and I never said the dogs were criminals, learn to read i said trained fighters(wow),and i have trained many dogs over the years and yes some breeds have higher tendancies toward aggression, whether you or anyone else like that fact or not! as far as C.D he is not a hero ,he is a man like me like you and like Vick,he wrote a blog people are passionate about !there are many more like it, just browse the web !
And incidently i never saw your proffessional credentials listed with your name ,are you a doctor ,or do you watch alot of csi ncis law & order and make frequent trips to web md or wikipedia ?
as far as calling people hipocrites, let me break it down for you again, I am refering to the people who are enraged by the violence that mike and his crew perpetrated on those dogs, now either want to or want to see it be done to him got it ?(hipocrites)
all in all I should have known better than to hope to rationalize with some irate hysterical people, articulate as some of them may be , I was simply saying hate the sin not the sinner, and learn a bit of forgiveness love in your heart feels better than hate!
and for the whole VenerealDisease thing , many men and women, in america, are guilty of this offence so i suppose they are all sociopaths as well ? Everyday we pass people on the street some of whom are quilty of horrible crimes, and some of victimless crimes (HA) and we are none the wiser ,but when it is publicised everyone becomes, just as much, the animals they despise . One final note to all ,there is no such thing as bad publicity, so haters and supporters keep his name on the tip of your toung and keep the articles comin you are all helpin him make money!!
September 7, 2011 at 12:05 pm
Glen, you are spot on. Like mine, your points and analogys are ignored, misquoted or misunderstood.
OOh, Here is an analogy!!… Try and twist this one CD and CD supporters.
If you blame ALL the owners for training their dogs to fight and be aggressive and the breed has nothing to do with it…. If you take your time, effort and will to rehab those dogs. Why not extend the same effort (or even a fraction of it) into a man? Your logic = Man has no second chance… Dogs can be rehabbed. So I ask, who trained or induced this type of behavior in MV? Can we blame his upbringing? Or is it just in his DNA (Unlike your claim for the Pit breed)? Have any of you (aside for Lynn) considered this as a factor? Personaly, I have more trust and faith in a man – then I do a dog. Most of you here seem to think otherwise.
Im begining to think some of your views on things are a birth defect.
I have entertained analogys relating this very subject to serial killers, infecting my mother or sister with a disease and even to Osama Bin Laden and his mass killings of 3000 inocent people on 9/11. Yes, seems crazy doesnt it? Surley one of your brilliant minds can try to give me your view on this one. Please.
I have a feeling it will simply be disregarded or blatently said that he did it -and there is NO coming back. He is to be punished forever. Proving my point even further.
Once again Glen, spot on.
September 7, 2011 at 2:12 pm
Should we blame his upbringing? I will acknowledge that yes, that is probably a piece of the overall puzzle. But you cannot rely solely on that. If that were the case EVERY child who grew up in an inner city, impoverished, dog fighting rich area would have a disposable view of dogs, and I cannot believe (my assumption) that that is the case.
As for attempting to rehabilitate Michael Vick, the primary difference as I (just me) see it is one of free will. Michael Vick is a grown man and makes his own choices (except maybe for the 18 months he spent in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary) whereas a dog doesn’t enjoy the same freedoms or level of logical reasoning that a man does. They do not understand right and wrong the same way that [most] humans do. The court did not order counselling as a part of Vick’s sentencing but as a grown, rational man seeking therapy or counselling is certainly within his power. Vick has a PR team of experts who guide his public persona, his public statements, etc. It has been reported only by HSUS’ Wayne Pacelle (in defense of his position – contrary to the stated mission of the HSUS and his own past statements that owning a dog would be a good thing for Vick ) that Vick has been undergoing weekly counseling sessions. I guess I am just surprised that we haven’t heard more about this. If that is actually the case, why not use that fact to help offset some of the negativity that surrounds Vick and his violent past. Too often the correlation is made regarding ‘past behavior being an indicator of future behavior’. I would think the Vick team would love to have this out in the public view – it’s what I would recommend if I was on his staff.
Now as for your broad statement regarding ‘trust and faith in a man’ versus ‘a dog’ for me that would depend on the man and the dog.
Oh, and I am still waiting to learn what my hidden agenda is so I can get to work on it. Thanks in advance.
September 2, 2011 at 1:56 am
Well it is a good thing most of you who feel the same way as Chris Durant dont run society. If you did, just imagine what your views of young AA teens who get in trouble for the first time would be. Pretty much like throw them in the slammer for the rest of their lives. Chris and pretty much the rest of you followers need to get a live and understand the power of forgiveness. Thank goodness you are the minority and the majority does not feel the same way most of you idiots feel
September 2, 2011 at 10:17 am
If there first time in “trouble” was the malicious torture and mutilation of innocent animals, yeah, Cammy, I’d probably not having a problem locking them up for a very long time. The emotional detachment it takes to perpetrate such action is frightening and makes that individual regardless of age a danger to our society as a whole.
PS – Good job with the name calling, it helps to solidify your maturity and certainly sell your argument.
September 7, 2011 at 4:03 pm
What does your name calling throughout the ENTIRE ‘article’ do?
There is name calling even in your one sentence introduction to your next peice.
Point taken. Thanks for the warning. Hippocrate.
September 7, 2011 at 4:14 pm
Thank you, Saint John. I suppose you and your little monkey boy forgot the venom you two spewed all weekend at me and everyone here. Regardless, seek life elsewhere. I personally think you are a pathetic joke and could care less what you have to say about me or anything else for that matter.
September 2, 2011 at 10:52 am
Cammy, to compare premeditated animal torture to a young AA member is soooo ridiculous there are no words to even reference. This wasn’t a one time or 2 time lapse of judgment Cammy. Mike Vick did this multiple times a week for 6 years. Add to it him spreading incurable disease to unsuspecting women knowing he had it, the things he did & a AA member are galaxies apart. How much do you know about serial animal torture Cammy? It would be a very responsible thing to read up on it & not to compare to drinking or drugs. Mike Vick is a sociopath Cammy. He deserved 10 years & got a preposterous 23 month sentence.
September 2, 2011 at 11:00 am
I think she was referring to “A”frican “A”merican, Angelo – but your point is still valid.
September 3, 2011 at 5:54 am
Honestly Cammy, how can you even compare the two? Can you not distinguish between a mistake and something that is as perpetrated as what Mike Vick did? I really fail to see the connection here. What is frightening to me is that you lump the two into the same category! Can you not see what is going on here?
I do believe in forgiveness, but I cannot forget such pure evil. I am saddened and angered that this poor excuse of a man is celebrated and the injustice he has committed has people like you screaming forgiveness…it was merely a mistake. A mistake? Really?
Perhaps if you do not agree with what Chris is saying, you might want to spend a little less time on the Chris Durant web page. Just a suggestion. At least give the man credit for posting your point of view, as distorted as it is.
BTW didn’t I see you on the “People of WalMart”??!!
September 2, 2011 at 1:12 am
Chris, this is so wonderfully written! I cannot thank you enough for bringing more attention to this scum sucking bottom feeder!!!
I wish to the high heavens I could do at least 7 or 8 of the things he did to those poor dogs to him. I wish he was dead and rotting in Hell!!!
September 2, 2011 at 12:52 am
Apparently the HSUS minions are out in full force in defense of their leader. I apologize for any distractions. – CD
September 2, 2011 at 9:52 am
Did you learn a new word today Chris?
September 2, 2011 at 10:18 am
Not yet, John. Care to educate me?
September 2, 2011 at 12:13 pm
Seems like several posts are missing… Legitimate ideas and open discussions to vaild points are gone because you decided to delete them. Your weak, your a coward, your views are shared by a very short list of radical, unforgiving, closed minded, one way individuals. No wonder you entire page is filled with no one confronting you. You censor your posts and remove conflicting views. You have forced me to leave this “world” and never return. Your true colors have shown. Chris Durant, you loose. Your fight is lost. MV has done everything anyone has asked of him since his release. Whether it was by force or by choice. He is a humbled man… He speaks genuinely without hate or disdain towards anybody or any group. You and your minions would never know that because you change the channel when you see him on tv… you turn the page in the newspaper… you dont click on the article with his picture on it unless it has a demeaning title. You are a discrace as an American for behaving the way you do attempting to get people all reared up on your worthless blog. This seems like the begining of a CD cult… One sided views, relentlessly wiping out any adversaries and not giving people the OPPERTUNITY to hear anything else. Thats right, think of that word oppertunity. Seems like everyone like you does the same thing. I dont see the MV supporters censoring all of his hate comments littered with false statements and callings for the bloodshed of a man.
I will now release the thought of Chris Durant and his fanatical creetens in my mind and go back and hug my children, pet my dog, put on my Nikes and head to Subway on my way to an Eagles game. Im thankful that your fight is a worthles one. You will not put a dent in Nike’s pockets, you will not affect the NFL or any other company or organization that chooses to promote MV or even allow him to live as a free man as per the law. You are laughed upon by the masses. I cant wait to see how many awards, accolades, endorsements, encouragements MV will receive this year. Knowing that your squirming with frustration that you blog isnt being read, Emails are turned into spam, your boycotts arent working and letters to Congressmen and CEOs are being disregarded and thrown in the trash. I already ripped into your rant that I saw was posted on someones FB page and exposed your intent and your misleading spin you have taken on this. She had removed it and apologised for ever posting it – blaming the internet and how its used for spreading hate. Your a joke.
September 2, 2011 at 12:43 pm
Actually no, John, I removed them because they had nothing to do with the subject at hand. They were personal attacks on me and other posters here using obscenities and racial antagonism to shift the discussion away from the topic in an effort to safeguard the HOLY HSUS and Wayne Pacelle. . If that is the venom they want to spew, they have the “Stop HumaneWatch” FB page and the entirety of the internet at their disposal.
As for “relentless wiping out of adversaries” – you’re still here. And the rest of your ‘observations’ like yesterday’s “Vick has saved more dogs than he’s hurt” are baseless.
But define for me if you would my “misleading spin”. I would like to think that my words contain no ambiguity and are pretty much to the point on how I feel about this.
Lastly, you sum up your position very nicely in the first sentence of your last paragraph. But let me leave you with this thought – my writings are nothing more than my opinion, you are free to agree or disagree as you see fit. These boycotts you disparage can be summed up like this: Many people, myself included do not agree with the corporate decisions of Nike, Subway and the like and as a result I (and others) no longer support or patronize these businesses as is our right and our perogative – especially when there are so many viable alternatives available.
Like so many others you have resorted to name calling and personal attacks and insults. That, John, shows your true colors. So good day to you.
September 3, 2011 at 2:32 pm
John apparently does not know the difference between “your” and “you are” aka “you’re.” Once is a typo, numerous times is ignorance.
September 3, 2011 at 7:20 pm
I would like you to try locate a single apostrophe ( ‘ ) in any of my posts. I dont use them unless Im writing something that I give a shit about what the reader thinks. I assure you I know the difference between your, you’re, to, too, two, and yes, even the puzzling there, they’re, and their!! Useful argument buddy… try and post something of substance next time you decide to attempt make a point.
Seems like the grammar corrections are the most useful pieces of information on this entire blog.
September 1, 2011 at 11:52 pm
Very simply. Rid the world of this evil. Death penalty.
September 1, 2011 at 11:47 pm
S’up “PLAYBOY” – I figured you’d pop up again spewing unfounded racist filth. Welcome back. My only question is with so many other phenomenal black athletes in the NFL, MLB, the NBA and other sports why are you so scope locked on the defending the one man who by his actions is the worst of the bunch. And let me be clear, you introduced race into this, not me. There are hundreds of black men in the NFL who have not committed the atrocities that Vick has, and yet you continue to be his drum without mentioning them. What does that say about you?
September 3, 2011 at 3:27 pm
WELL ACCORDING TO GOD I WAS TAUGHT TO FORGIVE AND FORGET. IM ALSO CARE FOR MY DOGS AS YOU HAVE SEEN MY PICS. AND I THINK HELPING PIT BULLS BY VOLUNEERING IS WAY BETTER THAN WRITING A BLOG TO TRY TO MAKE YOURSELF LOOK BIG AND TO BOOST UP YOUR EGO. PREACHING HATE THEN GETTING PRAISED FOR IT.
WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU?
September 3, 2011 at 5:03 pm
Quite honestly, PLAYBOY, or what ever your name is, I do not feel a need or responsibility to respond to anything you might possibly have to say. My thought is that you have shown yourself on here as well as on Twitter, as more than likely an angry teenager or at best a man with the mentality of one. On top of that you have absolutely nothing intelligent to say. You have made no argument whatsoever. You have merely hurled insults, personal attacks and obscenities at me and others here. Sure signs of your intelligence and maturity level, or apparent lack thereof.
John and Mike should be proud to have such a vocal supporter.
Lastly as I mentioned to you before, I find your ignorance laughable. So bring on your ridiculous insults. My friends and I like laughing at your stupidity and attempted slanders. And as for me, you and everyone else on this page knows who I am, what I am about, and even what I look like – very much unlike and your protected anonymity. Continue to hide and toss out your bile. But I must say, you do seem a tad obsessed. Do you have a thing for me? Is that it? Feeling a bit like a spurned lover, Playboy. Please don’t fret, I am sure, John – THE MAN – will welcome you with his big open arms.
Good luck, guys.
September 3, 2011 at 5:18 pm
Oh yeah, Larry, or Tyler, or nah, I’ll just stick with “PLAYBOY” as it seems so fitting. We were just voting on your best post to date – this is it and it is AWESOME!!!! Thanks for the laughs.
September 3, 2011 at 5:51 pm
Chris –
Thank you for sharing this post by “Playboy” from 8/7.
It really does confirm the thoughts in my post of earlier today.
September 1, 2011 at 11:12 pm
I don’t pay attention much to the news (too negative) and even less to professional sports (especially baseball, football and basketball). On those few occasions in the recent past when the Vick-blip hit the screen, I had to wonder WHY?!? As I think back, I had heard he had been sentenced but, honestly, didn’t pay attention to the actual charges. I had hoped that the justice system, damaged as it is, prevailed as it should have. I thank you, Chris, for opening my eyes, as so many others have said, to yet another heinous abuse of power in our government. It seems to me that greed is now the overriding concern in our society and it’s up to the body politic (the citizens) to take back the control our founding fathers built into the system.
September 1, 2011 at 10:33 pm
There are parts of this I simply cannot read. When the torture is described I have to skip over, blinking my eyes quickly to get down past it to better words. It hurts me to the core and leaves me shaking. Just think, I am not able to read such horror but Vick was able to carry it out. I do not have the ability to understand what would make a person capable of such heinous acts. Many have suffered harsh childhoods and tough environments, it didn’t make us sadistic monsters that relish in the pain of a living creature. If he breaks his neck playing football, that is one instant replay I will watch over and over. Odd isn’t it? I could see that and not feel pain, only that justice had been carried out.
September 1, 2011 at 10:01 pm
If Michael Vick were the QB for, say, the Dallas Cowboys, the good people, and passionate sports fans, of Philadelphia would openly hate his guts.
There is this sweet and friend-loving Smeagol – turned – to – Gollum – worshipping – his – “precious” thing going on. Only it’s not a ring. It’s a Quarterback. And it’s just creepy.
I guess that means it’s all about the winning at any cost. As a Philly girl who up until now, always supported the home team, I am disappointed with the Eagles and the Gollum-type worshippers of Michael Vick, and I am completely disgusted with the NFL for giving this guy a pass for the sake of *revenue*….
which is really what it all boils down to, if we are to be realistic….
It is just disgusting…..
September 1, 2011 at 9:57 pm
Brilliant..all of it.
September 1, 2011 at 9:55 pm
Wow. Was browsing the web and found this article. The man went to jail and paid his debt to society. He took a plea deal (which is part of the system here) and served his time. He was punished. It’s in the past and Vick has stayed out of trouble ever since. What else do you want from him? You have developed hatred for someone you don’t know and probably might never do. It just strikes me as a waste of time. What did he do to you? Does he know you exist? Would he say a thing to you if he saw you on the street? I think your hatred for someone who doesn’t even know you is unhealthy.Seems like some of you are in need of therapy. It simply boggles my mind. Is there a reason why you would hate a man you’ve never met and someone who has no affect on your life?
Plus he isn’t being rewarded. The guy has earned everything he’s been given. Do you think he would be given endorsements and 100 million dollar contracts if he had a bad season last year? He is getting all this because he is very, very talented. Don’t think there has ever been a QB with his skill set. And the role model thing. He isn’t paid to be one. It’s a parents job to raise their kids. You can’t possibly think Vick is responsible for raising every kid out there. If a parent thinks Vick is a bad role model, then that parent shouldn’t let their kid watch him on tv. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this is hatred is too much. You can ignore Vick, but you watch his games, listen to his interviews, watch everything he does, ect… Could it be that you are obsessed with a stranger? With that being said, I hope you find peace. Life is short.

Aaron, as I ask all the Vick supporters, how much reading have you done on people that can premeditatedly torture animals for extended periods of time? Are you aware of the FBI findings on animal torturers? Do you know those feelings never dissipate & it is only able to “hide” or ignore them for for short periods? How much do you know about the things he really did?
If Mike Vick infected one of the women in your life with an incurable sexual disease, knowing he had it after being treated under an assumed name he carelessly maimed your daughter, niece, cousin, sister, gf…how would you feel about him? Would you still be here sticking up for him? If a violent criminal moved into your neighborhood, knowing his deep rooted acts of violence would you be comfortable with your kids playing around his home? Would you be OK with him living next door?
If this guy was hanging around a corner in your neighborhood, an ex-con that did the things he did to women & animals, you wouldn’t be sticking up for him. If he wasn’t a NFL QB, you wouldn’t care. People that understand animal torture would. The NFL did kids everywhere a disservice allowing him back in. Anyone that could torture for amusement has no right being in a position that kids want to emulate, once you do things like a Mike Vick, you lose your privilege to play in something as high profile as the NFL

Absolutely brilliant, and well said. I do not understand how people can ignore all of what this sociopath has done and listen to his lies. Great article!

My question is simple: What do you think should happen/should have happened to Michael Vick?
September 1, 2011 at 10:36 pm
oooh? A question for me? Well, then…. I think that Michael Vick should have been truly tried, if not in Federal court then certainly in Virginia, the domicile state in which his crimes were committed in stead of being allowed to plead out to one very weak count of “Conspiracy” versus the potential THIRTY-FOUR felony counts of animal cruelty and dog fighting that he was admittedly guilty of.
Did you actually read this or any of the other post regarding Vick or were you just randomly opining? – CD
Any other questions?

@Jami: do some research–Pete Rose was banned from the game of baseball indefinitely–for sports gambling. Get it now?
September 1, 2011 at 8:46 pm
BRAVO!!! It’s almost as if he’s been rewarded for what he did, isn’t it? And you’re so right about how our morals, ethics, and values have declined to the point where we almost idolize jerks like Vick. He wasn’t punished severly enough, and he learned nothing from his actions, well aside from the fact that he was rewarded in the end.

As usual, another well written article Chris. I truly hope people look beyond the athlete and see the monster he is. I am so tired of people telling us to get over it.
September 1, 2011 at 8:28 pm
The GQ article this mont on Vick was exactly right. And so are you.
He’s soulless.
September 1, 2011 at 8:08 pm
This is one of the best articles EVER. Thank you –articulate, profound and DEAD ON! Thanks again
September 1, 2011 at 7:57 pm
I completely agree with everything you wrote. This is a hugely powerful article that I hope will circulate the globe. Right now, the only thing I can do besides wishing Vick harm is to remember that what goes around comes around. He will answer for it one day…we may not be here to see it, but he will. I have faith in that.

In my humble opinion, Wayne Pacelle is an idiot anyway. How can the head of what is supposed to be an organization whose stated reason for being is to prevent cruelty to animals (just not going to go into my disillusionment with that particular organization) even SUGGEST that Vick should ever even have contact with another animal?
As for Vick himself, that man is SO far beyond contempt!
I cannot imagine how Nike and Subway can manage to justify using him as a spokesperson.
Neither can I imagine ever buying any of their products again. Why ever? Because, if someone in those companies suddenly figures out just how incensed how many people are, good business sense would dictate that they drop him. Like yesterday. But that won’t change the fact that they cared more profit than humanity and signed him again.
As for the Eagles…I won’t ever root for them again.
Public figures like entertainers, sports stars, etc., are in the position of being role models for our children, whether they seek to be or not. It comes with the territory. And when those public figures take actions or demonstrate traits that we don’t want our children to emulate, they should be forced to disappear into oblivion.

You stated so much with such articulation that I can’t imagine that people wouldn’t be swayed. Except that I can. People are stupid. They (as a society) are lazy and don’t want to face anything harsh or difficult. Thanks Chris – this had to be an emotionally exhausting post, but I don’t think anyone could have said it better.
September 1, 2011 at 6:50 pm
Thank you, Lisa but you summed it up pretty well yourself – “People are stupid.”
September 4, 2011 at 1:17 pm
If people are” and I quote STUPID” than what are you? U sures hell ain’t a dog. Lmfao

You have put into words my exact thoughts and feelings. I have tried explaining why I feel the way I do about Vick and his actions, to completely uninformed individuals who think that just because “he’s electrifying on the field” excuses his barbaric actions. My anger and disappointment in humanity has rendered me mute on many occasions. The mindless sheep that follow pro sports and think it’s ok, need to be beaten with a shovel. I own a pit bull, and am very proud to do so. Idiots who have to ask why, or tell me that “he’s a killing machine” would never understand. It’s people like Vick and his cronies, that cause me to defend my choice of a companion. He has set animal rights back by 50 years. No animal should have to endure what his “non-performers” did. America needs to stand up and say that this is totally unacceptable behavior. But I hold out no hope of this ever happening.

This is the most powerful thing I have read in a long, long time. You have said everything I would say; I just don’t have the gift to come up with the words. You have spoken for me and for the beautiful dogs that Michael Vick tortured and killed. Thank you.
September 1, 2011 at 6:11 pm
It just shows ‘american justice’ money enough or just a pretty boy than can kick a ‘ball’….. Im gonna salute his team with middle finger.. may they all on that team get dammaged on track………….. such a sick bastard….

Chris, this is one of the best pieces ever written on Mike Vick. Our entire society is a microcosm of the Vick situation. Your point is well made. The one common factor with his fans is the consistent, conscious denial that he could perpetrate that kind of torture, that he enjoyed inflicting that kind of pain & suffering. It’s always ignored when his fans speak of him. Our society is broken indeed when the kind of evil Mike Vick committed, & is still in denial of, is treated as if it isn’t a big deal in the name of the NFL & sport. Beautiful work Chris.

Hi, I’m from England in the UK and I agree with every single word of this article. I try never to use the word “hate” but for Vick I will make an exception. I hate Vick with a passion. I will also use the word in regards to Wayne Pacelle…that piece of **** would side with satan himself if he thought he would profit from it. What is this world coming to when such actions can be swept under the carpet like they never happened? It’s not just in the USA either, this rot is global. The world is going mad. Well, either the world is going mad or I am!! Thank you so much for speaking out about this. People like you help to restore my faith in SOME of the human race.

Chris
WONDERFUL !!!! Just seeing his face makes me shake in anger. HE was born a thug POS and he will DIE a thug POS. I only hope it’s as cruel and painful as the MURDER of those precious dogs. I cannot all the sub human POS that chose to turn their heads to his cold blooded murder of those dogs. WTF fantasy land do they live in. Thank you so much for giving me yet another piece of truth to SLAP an idiot in the face with.
I LOVE THIS !!!

Media has gotten to be the bane of our lives. Anyone who makes Michael Vick out to be anything more than a disgrace to America is wrong. Oprah, Obama, government prosecutors and the media seem unable to comprehend how sick Michael Vick is. Our society is sick, just look at media coverage. We hear all about Lindsey Lohan and Michael Vick and nothing about how each of our Congressmen and Senators are preforming. Applaud goes to Michael Vick and his redemption but nothing about Border Patrol men who are imprisoned for self protection then released as felons. Americans need to reach down deep and see if they can find some ethics. And we citizens need to demand ethics from our elected officials……………… no matter what their religion is.

Thank you for your article. I’m glad to know that there are still a few good people in the world. At the same time, I despair over the vast majority of those who are either apathetic, or downright monsters. I don’t know how the world can last much longer and I don’t know that it should. It would be wonderful if life was a fairy tale and good really did triumph over evil – but it seems impossible. I fear for the world and the loss of human decency that reveals itself in more and more ways. If I had more faith in humanity I would wish for good to spread throughout the world…but to my deep sorrow I find myself wishing that the few people who know real love will hold on to it until we extinguish life on this planet.

Referendum on term limits………… I’d rather get something to effect a change that would mandate immediately putting all of Congress on Social Security/Medicare and some type of defined benefit plan that they pay into. I actually think that more important than term limits…………
September 3, 2011 at 3:07 pm
Well, this is off-topic, but you are mistaken. Congress has FERS retirement, they do pay Social Security and Medicare, and get only a very very small pension, 1 percent per year of service of their “high 3 salary.” http://www.opm.gov and check it out. I am so tired of people thinking Federal employees have it so much better.
As for Vick, he is despicable and evil personified. I can only hope someone hits him so hard on that football field that he becomes a quadriplegic.

Great article. It is time someone calls out Vick and Wayne Purcells of HSUS. All the money in the world doesn’t make what Vick did by murdering those dogs, acceptable. Nor does the money he supposedly gave to HSUS. The sad fact is that the HSUS is a fundraising, political lobbyist organization that does nothing but line their pockets. They do nothing to ACTUALLY help animals in need. They used Vick for publicity. Vick saw another way to help himself. HSUS used that money to create commercials of pathetic animals to generate more money. What really pisses me off is the celebs that agree to do the commercials and endorse HSUS. Are they that ignorant or are their handlers that stupid?
Thank you Chris for suggesting that folks donate their hard earned money to local shelters that are so in need of funds and help “real” animals in need.
